Tropical Storm Elsa Knocks Out Power To Thousands In Connecticut

Utility crews in Connecticut are still hard at work making repairs to hundreds of reported outages that are impacting more than 10,000 customers as Tropical Storm Elsa moves up the East Coast.

Elsa moved across Connecticut early on Friday, July 9, bringing heavy rain and whipping winds, which sent power lines flying and toppled trees, leaving thousands without power overnight.

As of 11:45 a.m. on Friday, July 9, Eversource was still reporting 10,042 of the company’s 1,285,863 customers were without power, while United Illuminating was working on 39 active outages, impacting 2,109 customers.

Washington (2,230 customers without power) was hit the hardest, followed by Milford (1,363), Haddam (1,290), Guilford (1,149), Westport (779), Monroe (588), Portland (364), New Haven (321), and Manchester (305).
